Bad Communication

a weekly podcast out of Japan

We Go Island Hopping with Amy Chavez

We sweat a little as Amy Chavez from the Japan Times and Huffington post joins us as a guest on the show.  We ask quite a few fan submitted questions in addition to a few of our own but run out of time before we manage to discuss her book “Japan. Funny Side Up” on the show.  Don’t worry!  You can look for a review of the book on next week’s show!  We round off the show with a track pick, a pick pick, a story about tsunami salvaged beer, a culinary top 10 and some causes right in here in Japan worth getting behind.  Another action packed BC is live on the internet!

Great interview with my old friend Amy! By the way, if I may make an observation about your video – I think it’s a cool setup, and I love the reflections below the boxes – but I’m a bit distracted by the way you both tend to look outwards instead of inwards. I think if you looked inwards, towards each other, you would kind of create an illusion that were in the same room, and more importantly, I would no longer be distracted.

Look for Planet Japan to make its triumphant return in just a matter of days!!

Hi Doug! It’s great to hear from you again. How is sunny Okinawa treating you? You’re not back in good old Okayama yet, are you?

Thanks for the video tip. I have to admit that I never pay much attention to things like that when I line up the video feeds for the final product, but I’ll be sure to pay attention going forward. Did you get the impression that Andrew and I were looking at some mysterious object to the left and right of your monitor?

Amy mentioned that she used to be your cohost on Planet Japan. I had seen previous material from the show that had Amy listed as your cohost, but I never put the two together.

Looking forward to the return of Planet Japan!

Okinawa is quite nice – a good change of pace for me from Okayama. Looking forward to lots of fun adventures. Amy and I did Planet Japan for about 3 years, I guess. You should listen to some of those early shows in the archive. They’re still pretty funny…
